Benefits of training in the Sand

"NCAA Beach Volleyball is one of the fastest-growing college sports ever."

"The popularity of beach volleyball (formally known as sand) has exploded over the last few years. It made the quickest transition from an emerging sport to a championship sport in NCAA history. It’s also the fastest growing NCAA sport over the last five years in Division I." (AVCA)

Why play beach volleyball?

Develop all skills

A beach volleyball player does it all; serve, pass, set, as well as hit. If you are weak in any of these areas, playing on the sand will force you to work on all of your skill set. Thereby, helping you to become a well-rounded and more dynamic volleyball player for indoor and beach competition.

Improve ball control

If you want to become a more adaptable player and improve your ball control skills, playing outside on the sand will certainly help. Between the sun, sand, wind, and the elements, it’s hard to know what to expect and playing with these challenges is a great way to improve volleyball IQ.

Learn to read and react

Instead of having multiple players on each side of the court, there are fewer players around you, so it is less likely to have others bail you out if you make a mistake. As a result, players learn how to read the game and anticipate better, thereby improving reaction time and defensive skills.

Improve speed and agility

Looking to increase your speed and agility? Play volleyball in the sand! It’s harder to move around on an unstable surface, forcing you to expend more energy and developing agility. There’s no better way to increase your jump and quickness than by playing on the sand.
